Orion

This van was designed to be a quiver for a multi-sport athlete while also having the capability to be camper for a small family. A modern, clean, purpose built appearance was the goal for this build.

The 2020 Sprinter 4x4 was insulated properly for below freezing conditions and an Espar heater was installed to keep the cabin extra toasty when needed. More space in the cabin area was created by opting for a smaller two seater bench seat. We built a drawer and a secure lock box in the voids below the bench seat. We modified our original design of our Overhead Storage Compartment to include two flip-up doors to keep with the clean look.

A large leg-less table flips up from the wall to create a desk/table space with power ports purposely located close by. This table can also be used by the driver-seat when swiveled around, creating a table for 3. The bed measures 60” wide by 72” long (short queen size) and we built storage boxes along one side to act as a shelf/night stand as well. We of course outfitted the van as well with our Kids Kot sleeping platform creating an additional bed for the young one.

The robust electrical system is organized conveniently out of the way in the space in front of the rear driver-side wheel well and under the bench seat. This system has 2 x 100AH ReLion Low-Temp Lithium Ion batteries hooked up to a RedArc Manager 30 that accepts charging from the 300 watts of solar on the roof, the alternator or shore power if available/needed. A 2000 watt inverter is stored away as well and should allow you to use whatever house-hold creature comforts you need to bring along.

Encased in a cabinet over the passenger-side rear wheel-well is a 22-gallon water tank, water pump and plumbing. Quick disconnect outlets for water are accessible from both the slider and rear door openings. On the slider-door side of this water cabinet, a small door conceals a convenient storage compartment for the shower head and hose as well as a window for viewing the water level in the tank.

The garage was designed to be as versatile as possible for carrying a variety of gear and equipment. L-track was installed in many locations on the walls and floor allowing for the use of different L- track accessories to assist with gear storage and management. We installed our Ceiling Surf Strap system on the underside of the bed for out of the way surfboard storage and our Premium Ski Racks work perfect in the wall L-tracks for ski or snowboard storage on the walls.
